Beschreibung

Kisspeptin-10 (also spelled kisspeptine in French-language literature) is a 10-amino-acid neuropeptide fragment derived from the larger kisspeptin precursor encoded by the KISS1 gene. It is classified as an endogenous neuropeptide hormone and the minimal biologically active fragment that retains full activity at the kisspeptin receptor (GPR54, also known as KISS1R). Kisspeptin signaling is considered a master upstream regulator of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis through its action on GnRH-producing neurons.

At the cellular level, Kisspeptin-10 binds GPR54, a G-protein-coupled receptor expressed densely on GnRH neurons of the hypothalamus. Receptor activation triggers Gαq/11-coupled phospholipase-C signaling, leading to intracellular calcium mobilization and downstream depolarization of GnRH neurons. This signaling cascade positions kisspeptin as the principal upstream gatekeeper of GnRH pulse generation, and as a result, of pituitary LH and FSH dynamics in neuroendocrine research models.

Research interest in Kisspeptin-10 centers on neuroendocrine signaling research, HPG axis investigation, and reproductive-biology research models, including pubertal-onset timing, hypothalamic neuron biology, and species-comparative neuroendocrine signaling. Foundational research investigations have reported that experimental kisspeptin administration in laboratory research subjects is associated with elevated luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and downstream testosterone signaling in males, supporting the kisspeptin system as a central HPG-axis research target (Dhillo et al., 2005, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism).

The peptide is supplied as a lyophilized powder to ensure optimal stability during storage and handling.
