Description

BAC Water (Bacteriostatic Water) is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. It is supplied in 10 ml glass vials for laboratory research use, primarily as a diluent for reconstituting lyophilized peptides and research compounds.

In research workflows, BAC Water is commonly used to dissolve lyophilized peptide powders into liquid form for downstream experimental work. The bacteriostatic preservative inhibits bacterial growth in multi-use vials, extending the working life of reconstituted research solutions under standard laboratory storage conditions.

Pepcore supplies BAC Water as a 10 ml sterile vial manufactured to laboratory research grade and dispatched from the EU with fast shipping.

Scientific Background

Bacteriostatic water is purified water (USP/EP-grade) containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol added as a preservative agent. Unlike sterile water for injection (which contains no preservative), bacteriostatic water can be used multiple times from the same vial without significant risk of bacterial contamination, making it the standard diluent in research environments where peptide vials are reconstituted and stored over multiple weeks.

The benzyl alcohol concentration is calibrated to provide antimicrobial protection without altering the chemical activity of most peptide research compounds. This balance makes bacteriostatic water the most widely used reconstitution diluent across peptide research laboratories.

Mechanism of Action

Mechanism / Function

BAC Water is water containing benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. The preservative helps limit bacterial growth after repeated vial access, but it does not sterilize contaminated solutions and does not determine the stability of the reconstituted peptide.

Research Applications

1. Peptide Reconstitution

BAC Water is commonly used as a diluent for reconstituting lyophilized peptides in laboratory research workflows, where compatible with the compound and protocol.

2. Multi-Use Vial Handling

The benzyl alcohol preservative supports repeated withdrawals from the same vial under aseptic laboratory conditions. Storage duration and temperature should be determined by the peptide, concentration, and research protocol.

3. Solution Preparation

Used for preparing controlled-concentration peptide solutions for analytical assays and in-vitro research models, where benzyl alcohol is compatible with the assay system.

4. Comparative Baseline

Provides a consistent diluent baseline across experimental replicates, helping reduce solvent-related variability.

Conclusion

BAC Water is a commonly used bacteriostatic diluent for peptide reconstitution and laboratory solution preparation. Reconstituted peptide stability depends on the specific compound and protocol. For laboratory research use only.
